Q. Will my insurance company pay for your services?
A. Almost always, the answer is “Yes”. The final determination of what the insurance company pays is up to the adjuster; however, we work closely with all insurance companies and create our bids from the industry standard estimating software. If any work that we propose is outside the scope of what the adjuster has approved, you will know that before any work is done and be able to decide whether or not to proceed.
Q. Why am I paying Capstone the deductible instead of my insurance company?
A. Insurance contracts require the policyholder to pay the deductible amount before the insurance company pays out on the claim. The insurance company does not collect the deductible from you since the contract is between you and Capstone. They will pay the difference between the deductible and the contract amount.
Q.Can the odor from smoke really be eliminated?
A. Yes. With the proper equipment, chemical compounds, and procedures, molecular binding can neutralize and eliminate smoke smells. It is critical that someone who is properly trained determine the type of the smoke and properly select the correct neutralizing agent and application procedures.
Q. When will my estimate be given to me?
A. Estimates are normally completed within 48 hours of the estimators’ visit to your property. They can be delivered electronically by email or fax, or if you prefer they can be sent by mail.
Q. Do you subcontract out your work?
A. Almost all of our work is completed by our own crews. Specialty materials or items are occasionally subcontracted. Additionally, when completing large loss jobs, like structure fires, more subcontractors are used like in the typical “new-build” environment.
Q. Is mold really dangerous?
A. Yes, it can be. There are many factors that determine the seriousness of the situation like the age, health, and susceptibility of the individual, the type or strain of mold, the quantity of mold, and other environmental conditions. The only way to conclusively make these determinations is through proper environmental testing and consultation with a physician.
Q. Can I just put a fan on my water damage and be okay?
A. No. Improper drying can actually cause secondary damage. For example, pictures, hardwood surfaces, electronics, etc can be damaged by excessive moisture in the air. Proper and prompt drying equipment and expertise is required to extract water from the structure and from the air to return the area to the original condition. Microbial treatment to inhibit mold growth is also essential.
Q. Can you match my paint colors and construction materials?
A. Every effort is made to match the existing materials in your home. However, paint fades with light exposure and time and may not be completely consistent even in the same room. Occasionally, a fixture or appliance in a home is no longer manufactured or the design may have changed. Our superintendents will work with you through the materials selection process to ensure that you are aware of and approve of the materials being used in your project.
Q. Will the repair crews just paint the repaired portion of my structure?
A. Since it is so difficult to exactly match the paint colors on existing walls and ceilings, Capstone will normally paint the entire room or continuous living space if any painting is required.
Q. Can my roof be repaired or does it have to be replaced?
A. Only through detailed and experienced inspection and examination can the true condition of the roof be determined. Capstone’s experts can help you understand the age, condition, and remaining life of your roof and substructure. We will make recommendations in our free estimate as to how best to protect and preserve your property.
Q. How do you determine the cost of my repair?
A. All of our estimates are created using Xactimate™ software. This software is the industry standard for insurance repairs and has established pricing built in. Your insurance company most likely uses the same software to scope and value the damages in your claim. Neither the insurance company nor Capstone determines the pricing. All pricing is done by an independent third party that updates all material prices quarterly as market conditions fluctuate.
Q. Is it dangerous for a property owner to clean up blood or other biohazard material?
A. Definitely yes. There are strict federal, state, and local laws requiring licensing, training, and procedures to protect individuals from the severe risks of biohazards. Risks of HIV, all strains of Hepatitis, H1N1, and other communicable diseases are high if proper equipment, procedures, and disposal practices are not followed.
Q. Will I need to be home to have my roof inspected?
A. It is always best to be home when your roof is inspected. When the Capstone technicians are locating a leak and attic access is necessary, it is required that the homeowner be on-site. However, if the inspection is just for maintenance or esthetics, you do not have to be present. Capstone will require authorization for access and instructions before entering the property.
Q. Will missing concrete/clay roof tiles mean that my roof will leak in that area?
A. Not necessarily, or immediately! It may take some weathering of the underlayment to produce a leak. It is advisable to have the roof tile replaced as quickly as possible to prevent underlayment degradation as well as structural water saturation.
Q. Is there anything I can do to prevent premature roof degradation?
A. Capstone Group, with 30+ years of roofing experience, has a number of suggestions to slow the roof aging process. We are happy to meet with you and offer suggestions to prolong the longevity of your roofing investment.
